The General section lets you control your website’s overall layout and basic functionality. From here, you can adjust the site container width, enable or disable the back to top button, choose where to apply a sticky sidebar, and define the search bar behavior. These options help you set up the foundation of your site’s appearance and user experience.
Site Container Width #
What it does: Sets the maximum width of your site’s main content container.
How to set it #
- Find Site Container Width.
- Choose a preset: 1170px, 1270px, 1370px, or 1440px.
– Typical picks:
• Blogs/news: 1170–1270px
• Corporate/portfolio: 1370–1440px - Need something specific? Click Custom and enter your width in pixels (e.g., 1280).
Notes #
- This controls the overall container; individual page builder sections can still be set to full-width if you want edge-to-edge rows.
- After changing the width, clear any caching to see the update.
What it does: Shows a floating button that returns visitors to the top of the page after they scroll.
How to set it #
- Locate Back to Top.
- Toggle Yes to enable or No to disable.
Tips #
- Enabling improves long-page navigation and accessibility.
- The button typically appears near the bottom-right once the user scrolls.
Sticky Sidebar #
What it does: Keeps the selected sidebar visible as visitors scroll, until it reaches the footer.
How to set it #
- Find Sticky Sidebar.
- Check the templates where you want it active:
- Default (Blog) – for standard posts & archives using the default layout
- Search Result Page – for site search results pages
- Page Template – for pages that use a sidebar layout
- Save.
Notes & tips #
- Use sticky sidebars for important widgets (TOC, CTAs, subscribe box).
- Very tall sidebars may not appear to “stick” if they’re longer than the content. Trim or reorder widgets for best results.
- On very small screens, many themes automatically disable sticky behavior for usability; test on mobile.
Search Bar Behavior #
What it does: Chooses which content types are included in your site search.
How to set it #
- Find Search Bar Behavior.
- Open the dropdown and select one or more content types (e.g., Posts, Products).
- If WooCommerce is active, Products will appear.
- Any custom post types you’ve registered will also appear.
- Save.
Tips #
- Keep selections focused (e.g., “Products and Posts”) for more relevant results.
- If you need advanced search features (weighting, partial matches), you can add a dedicated search plugin; this setting still controls which post types Digishift submits to search.
Troubleshooting #
- Container width didn’t change?
Check if your page/section is set to full-width in the page builder; clear caching/minification. - Sticky sidebar not sticking?
Make sure the sidebar is shorter than the main content and test with other plugins disabled to rule out conflicts. - Products not showing in search?
Confirm WooCommerce is active and Products is selected under Search Bar Behavior. - Back to Top not visible?
Scroll down the page; if still missing, ensure it’s enabled and clear caches.
