Switch Between Different Demos

If you wish to import a different demo or start over with a fresh import, you must first clean your WordPress installation by removing content from the previous demo. Failure to do so will result in duplicated pages, menus, and widgets.

Warning: This process will delete content. If you have created your own content on top of a demo, ensure you have a backup before proceeding.

Manual Cleanup Steps Before a New Import #

For a clean import, follow these steps to remove previous demo data:

Step 1: Delete All Previous Pages #

1. Navigate to Pages > All Pages.
2. Select all pages using the bulk action checkbox.
3. From the Bulk Actions dropdown, select “Move to Trash” and click “Apply”.
4. Go to the Trash and empty it to permanently delete the pages.

Step 2: Delete All Navigation Menus #

1. Navigate to Appearance > Menus.
2. Select each menu you wish to delete.
3. Click the “Delete” link to remove each menu completely.

Step 3: Remove All Widgets #

1. Navigate to Appearance > Widgets.
2. For each sidebar widget area (e.g., Footer, Blog Sidebar), open the panel.
3. Click on each widget and select “Delete” to remove it from the sidebar.

Step 4: Import the New Demo #

1. Once the site is clean, navigate to Digishift > Demo Import.
2. Browse the available demos and click the “Import” button on your new chosen demo.

Alternative: Using WP Reset Plugin (Recommended) #

For a guaranteed clean slate, using the WP Reset plugin is the most effective method. This will reset your database to a fresh WordPress state, keeping only your theme and plugins active.

WARNING: This will delete all posts, pages, media, and settings. It is irreversible. Only use this if you want to completely start over.

1. Install and activate the free “WP Reset” plugin from the WordPress plugin repository.
2. Navigate to Tools > WP Reset.
3. Scroll down to the “Reset” section.
4. Type ‘reset’ in the confirmation field to enable the button.
5. Click the “Reset” button. This will clear your database back to default settings in seconds.
6. After the reset, follow the standard steps in Importing a Demo Site to import your chosen demo.
